Graft cases: Khaleda appears before court
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has appeared before a special court to give deposition of self defence over the charges of Zia Charitable Trust and Zia orphanage graft cases.
She reached the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3, set up at the playground of Govt Alia Madrasah in the capital’s Bakshibazar, around 11:00am on Thursday.
The special court on January 5 adjourned the hearing of the cases filed against the BNP chief until January 12 (today).
In 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against six including Khaleda and her son Tarique Rahman.
It alleged that the defendants had embezzled Tk 21 million from funds meant for the trust, which reportedly came from a foreign bank.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.
