No bar to hold FBCCI polls from May 14
The Appellate Division uplifted the bar to hold election to the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for 2017-19 after May 14.
Three members bench of the Supreme Court's (SC) Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on Thursday dismissing the High Court (HC) rule following a petition filed by FBCCI authorities.
Moreover, the court ordered to include Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce as a proposed director.
Earlier on March 22, the High Court (HC) halted the FBCCI election for two months. The election was scheduled to be held on May 14.
Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce president Aminul Haque filed a writ petition seeking halt of the FBCCI election.
He claimed that as per law every district will send proposed director's name to the centre. Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce applied in 2016 to include them in voter list.
They file a writ before FMCCI election schedule which the court also gave same direction.
