BNP won't get power by lodging complaints: Quader

Meherpur Correspondent

Leveling the BNP as 'Bangladesh Nalish (complaint) Party', Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the party could not go to power by lodging complaints.

Quader, also the Awami League (AL) General Secretary urged the party leaders and activists for taking preparations for the next general election.

"The next general election will be held timely under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina...so, the party leaders and activists will have to take preparations from now," he said.

The minister made this call while addressing a public meeting arranged by the Awami League marking the historical Mujibnagar Day at the Sheikh Hasina Manch in Mujibnagar of Meherpur.

With Mujibnagar Day Observance Committee Convener and AL's presidium member Mohammad Nasim in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq, AL's Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif and Abdur Rahim MP, Organizing Secretary Abu Sayeed Al Mamun Shawpan, Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Former Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton, District AL's General Secretary Abdul Khaleque and Bangladesh Chatra League President Saifur Rahman Sohag.

Sharply criticizing BNP's activities, Quader said "BNP is an issue-based party...now they are capitalizing on anti-Indian issue..earlier they had created a lot of issues, but the people did not pay heed to those issues."

He said the BNP is now hatching conspiracies for creating newer issues on the election, and added that the party would again fail in its attempt to create issues.

Mohammad Nasim said in his address that as per the constitution, the next general election will be held in proper time. "Those who don't observe the historical April 17, are not at all the believers of the spirit of the liberation war," he said.

Mozammel Haque said Ziaur Rahman had proved that he was a spy of Pakistan as he had provided shelter to the killers of Bangabandhu and rehabilitated Nizami- Mujahid politically.

The AL leaders, including Mohammad Nasim and Obaidul Quader, placed floral wreaths at the Mujibnagar memorial monument.

Then the national flag was hoisted and the AL leaders were a guard of honour there.
