2 killed in Dinajpur boiler blast, 15 in critical condition

Two workers were killed and 30 others suffered burn injuries in a boiler explosion at a rice mill in Gopalganj of Dinajpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday.


Among the burn injured workers, conditions of 15 are critical as 50 to 90 percent of their bodies have been burned, said Rangpur Medical College burn unit's chief physician Dr. Maruful Islam.


The deceased were identified as Ranjita Rani Roy, 40, and Moksed Ali, 50.


Police and locals said the boiler went off with a big bang at ‘Jamuna Auto Rice Mill’ this evening, leaving 30 workers injured with burns.


Locals rescued the victims and took 23 of them to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital where doctors declared the two dead.   


Later, 17 injured were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.


Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Redwanur Rahim said they were looking into the incident.
