'Gunfight' kills one in Ishwardi

A man was killed in 'gunfight' in Ishwardi of Pabna district as police and drag dealers were in a battle. Five police men were cocktail wounded during the 'gunfight' thrown by the 'drag dealers'.


The deceased was identified as Alia Bhulu (40) resident of Mohammadpur Bihari Bazar area Ishwardi. Police claim that Alia Bhulu was the top drug dealer in the area of Ishwardi.


Police said, on early Friday, around 2:00am, riding motorcycle three drag dealers including Alia Bhulu were traveling through Pakshi EPZ. Near the Pakshi police checkpoint police blocked the signal to stop them.


The drug dealers hurled cocktails and fired at police targeted a 'gunfight' as police also fired back. At one stage of the shootings, five policemen were injured and Alia Bhulu was killed.


After autopsy the dead body of Alia Bhulu has been kept in Pabna General Hospital morgue. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.


Jahurul Haque, additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle), said a revolver, three rounds of bullets and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot. But, he declined to name the five injured policemen.


Alia Bhalu had involved in drug trading with a syndicate of 10-15 drug dealers in Ishwardi for a long time. Earlier, he was arrested several times by the members law enforcement agencies, he added.


On last May 7, Alia Bhalu's wife Ferozha Begum (33) was also arrested with about 7 thousand pieces of yaba, police said.
