HC reschedules N'ganj 7-murder verdict on Aug 22

The High Court deferred the announcement of its verdict on the death references and appeals in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder cases till August 22.

The HC bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam re-fixed the date for delivering the most shout justice. 

The court, however, did go for its final step as the copy of the verdict was not ready.

Defense lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury told Samakal that the bench fixed the new date as the verdict was yet to get ready for delivery.

After hearing arguments from the state and the defence counsels on 33 dates, the judges on July 26 fixed August 12 for announcing the virdict.

Earlier on January 16 this year, the lower court gave the verdict in seven murders case.

In the verdict, the court passed death sentence against 26 people, including 16 former RAB officials and members and former ward councilor of Narayanganj City Corporation Nur Hossain and his 9 associates. At the same time, nine former members of RAB had been sentenced to varying jail terms.
